About Diyarbakir

Diyarbakir Diyarbakır is one of the largest cities in southeast Turkey , is located on the banks of the Tigris River.
It is the administrative capital of the province of Diyarbakir , which has a population of about 843.460 , the second largest city in the region of Anatolia in Turkey's southeast , after Gaziantep Gaziantep .

To get to know the beginning of the reason for naming the city of that name :
After the Arab conquests in the seventh century , occupied the tribe Bakr Arab this region , which became known as the Diyarbakir Diyar Bakr ( ie they Diar tribe Baker) , and in 1937 he visited Ataturk this city and is replacing its name to Diyarbakır ( which means land of copper in Turkish) .

Diyarbakir surrounded ancient Psoraala of black basalt ( 5.5 - kilometer ), and ranks second only to the Great Wall of China as the largest city wall in the world.
There are four gates to the old city of Diyarbakir , and 82 -hour tower , all built in the ancient times.



 Grand Mosque in Diyarbakir Diyarbakır Ulu Camii:
Built by the Seljuk Turks in the eleventh century , and this is one of the oldest in Turkey , used in the construction of black basalt and white limestone .
It can accommodate up to 5,000 worshipers at the same time .




 Lighthouse Dört Ayaklı Minare ( four columns ):
 Built by Qasim Khan Kasim Khan, said that the person who passes seven times between the four pillars of all his wishes will be achieved !




Church Dört Ayaklı Minare:
It is the Armenian Orthodox Church in Diyarbakir , has been recently - and despite the use - partly renovated and was re-opened on 23 October 2011.
And extends over an area of 3,200 square meters and includes homes for the priests and chapels and a school .



Tower Dicle Köprüsü:
Is a historic bridge in Diyarbakir this city, located on the Tigris River , was built in 1065 and is made of black volcanic stone .
A length of 178 meters ( 584 feet ) . And locally called "Gözlü Köprü" ( no bridge ten brackets) because it consists of ten arches .
Has a name Ako Silvan Bridge "Silvan Köprü" due to its location being on Sylvan Road .



Food in Diyarbakir :
Learn Diyarbakir Botabagaha is composed of mutton with some spices like black pepper , sumac and coriander as well as rice, bulgur wheat and butter, whereas fruit V_ihr the Diyarbakir watermelons which issues internationally.
It is worth mentioning that it is one of the largest annual events that are held in this city is the Watermelon Festival !
